These are the types of basil which we offer in 3.5 inch pots:

 

Anise or Licorice (Ocimum basilicum) -   H: 1.5 ft, W: N/A, Sun: Full, Zone: 9-11, Description: Bushy plant with small, broad, and green leaves on dark purple stems. The leaves, stems and flowers all have an anise/clove/licorice scent. Uses: The leaves can be used in a variety of dishes and for tea. It also has been used medicinally and we recommend you consult with a certified herbalist before you use it medicinally.  Note: This variety was developed in Africa and South Asia. 

 

Cardinal Basil (Ocimum basilicum) - H: 2-3 ft, W: N/A, Sun: Full, Zone: 11, Description: Bushy plant with broad green leaves on purple stems with large clusters of pink/purple flowers. Uses: Flowers are good fresh and dried to make bouquets. The leaves are spicy and sweet and can be used as you would sweet basil. Note: It has some resistance to downy mildew. 

 

Cinnamon (Ocimum basilicum)  - H: 1-3 ft, W: 1-3ft, Sun: Full, Zone: 10-11, Description: Bushy plant with smooth green leaves and purple stems/leaf veins that are spicy with an anise and cinnamon taste. Uses: Can be used in desserts, Mexican food, salads and tea. Note: Mexican variety and annual. 

 

Envigor™ (Ocimum basilicum) - H: 1-2 ft, W: 10-14 inches, Sun: Full, Zone: 10-11, Description: Bushy plants with crinkly green leaves with a strong basil flavor. Uses: Leaves can be used in any recipe that calls for genovese or sweet basil. Note: This variety is essentially a genovese type basil that is offered by Richter’s Herbs but is resistant to alfalfa mosaic virus, cucumber mosaic virus, and tomato spotted wilt virus. 

 

Genovese (Ocimum basilicum) - H: 1-2 ft, W: 10-14 inches, Sun: Full, Zone: 10-11, Description: Bushy plant with crinkly green leaves with a strong stereotypical basil flavor, Uses: Leaves used primarily in cooking and for making pesto. Note: Heirloom variety from Italy with large amounts of vitamin A. 

 

Holy Kaprao (Ocimum tenuiflorum) - H: 1-2ft, W: 1-2ft, Sun: Full, Zone: 10, Description: Plants are bushy with light green leaves that have a hint of black pepper and clove scent and flavor. Uses: Leaves are used primarily in Thai cooking. Note: This is the also known as Thai Holy Basil. 

Kapoor Tulsi (Ocimum Tenuiflorum)  - H: 1-2 ft, W: 1-2 ft, Sun: Full, Zone: 10, Description: Plants are bushy with light green fuzzy leaves and pink spikes of flowers. Use: Leaves have a spicy aroma with hints of coffee and chocolate and can be used to make tea. Note: Plants are deer resistant and have been traditionally grown in India for centuries as a medicinal her

Lime (Ocimum americanum) - H: 1-2 ft, W: N/A, Sun: Full, Zone: 10-11, Description: Short bushy plant with smooth green leaves that have a lime flavor. Uses: Leaves add a nice hint of lime to cocktails, fish, and salads. Also, leaves are good for use in tea. Note: Originally from Thailand and annual.

Osmin (Ocimum basilicum) - H: 8- 20 inches, W: 1 ft, Sun: Full, Zone: N/A, Description: Short bushy plants with dark purple leaves and stems. Uses: Leave can be used for pesto, salads, vinigerettes, and more. Note: Plants are annuals in this zone. 

 

ProsperaⓇ Red (Ocimum basilicum) - H: 1-2 ft, W: N/A, Sun: Full, Zone: N/A, Description: Bushy plants with dark purple stems and leaves up to 3 inches long. Uses: The leaves  can be used in cooking and for tea as you would a green sweet basil. Note: This hybrid variety has resistance to downy mildew and fusarium wilt. Plants are good for both field and container production. 

 

Purple Ruffles (Ocimum basilicum) - H: 1.5 ft, W: 1.5 ft, Sun: Full, Zone: N/A, Description: Bushy plants with dark purple stems and ruffled leaves. Plants also produce pink flowers. Uses: The leaves can be used in cooking and in tea as you would a green sweet basil. Note: All American Award winning variety and annual in this climate. 

 

Rutgers Devotion DMR (Ocimum basilicum) - H: 1-1.5 ft, W: N/A, Sun: Full: Bushy green plants with leaves  similar in look and taste to that of Genovese basil. Use: Can be used in cooking and tea as you would use Genovese and Sweet basil. Note: This variety was developed by Rutgers University and has high resistance to downy mildew and fusarium wilt. 

 

Rutgers Obsession DMR (Ocimum basilicum) - H: 1.5 ft, W: N/A, Sun: Full: Bushy green plants with green leaves similar in look and taste to traditional sweet basil. Uses: Can be used in recipes wherever sweet basil is called for. Note: This variety was developed by Rutgers University and has intermediate resistance to downy mildew and fusarium wilt. Plants are good for containers, field, and greenhouse production. 

Sweet - H: 1-2ft, W: 1-2ft, Sun: Full, Zone: N/A, Description: Upright plants with bright green leaves that are very aromatic and white flower spikes. Uses: Leaves are very good for pesto and tomato dishes, as well as cocktails, desserts, and tea. Note: Plants are open pollinated and deer resistant. 

Siam Queen Thai ( basilicum) - H: 2-3 ft, W: 1-2 ft, Sun: Full, Zone: 11, Description: Bushy plant with green/purple leaves that are spicy with an anise/licorice flavor. Uses: Leaves can be used in South Asian cooking. Note: Good source of calcium and vitamins. Annual. 

 

Sweet Dani Lemon (Ocimum spp.) - H: 1-2 ft, W: 1-2 ft, Sun: Full, Zone: 11, Description: Bushy light green colored leaves that have a lemon scent and flavor. Uses: Leaves are good for chicken and fish recipes but also fruit salads and tea. Note: All American Selections Award winning variety. 

 

Plants are available for pickup and shipping between May 31st and October 31st.
