Alba or White (Viola odorata) - 4-8 inches, W: 4-8 inches, Sun: Shade to part, Zone: 3-8, Description: Low growing plants with dark green heart shaped leaves. Flowers are white and sometimes have purple veining in the centers. Uses: Good for cut flowers and making perfume. Note: perennial plant. 

 

Freckles (Viola odorata) - H: 6-8 inches, W: 6-8 inches, Sun: Shade and part sun, Zone: 3-8, Description: Low growing plant with green heart shaped leaves. Flowers are white with blue/violet flecks. Uses: Flowers can be cut and used for perfume. Note: A perennial plant. 

 

Purple or Sweet (Viola odorata) - H: 4-6 inches, W: N/A, Sun: Shade to part, Zone: 5-8, Description: Low growing plant with heart shaped green leaves and purple flowers. Uses: Flowers can be used as a garish or candied and then used on cakes, pastries, and punched fruit. Violets can also be added to flan, gelatins, fruit and vegetable salads, jams, jellies, liquors, and puddings. Leaves and flowers can be steeped in water until it becomes fragrant and then added to breads, chilled soups, cupcakes, fruit composites, and ices. Leaves can be used medicinally as well. Note: Perennial and native to Europe/Asia/North Africa. 

 

Rosea/Rosina (Viola odorata) - H: 8 inches, W: 8-12 inches, Sun: Shade to part, Zone: 5-9, Description: Low growing plant with heart shaped green leaves and pink/violet flowers. Uses: Good for cut flowers and making perfume. Note: Heirloom  sweet violet variety, deer resistant, and perennial.
